Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League reports final results

LUDLOW–The Okemo Valley Golf Club Men’s League came to a stirring conclusion on August 12.  The chase for the Commissioner’s Cup could not have been any tighter.  EVS Metal, which led the league for an unprecedented 11 weeks, came up short in the final night double-points scramble.  Stryhas Builders, the squad that was in last place after week four and left for dead, rallied and finished the season like Secretariat in the homestretch.  Ted Stryhas, PJ Garvey, Charlie Howard and Tim Faulkner fired a league-scramble low, 10-under-par 25, as the team made two eagles and six birdies–grabbing first place for the night and first place for a season-capping historic comeback.  EVS Metal limped home for the night, finishing eighth for the evening as Dave Higley, Terry Thayne, Chuck Sweetman and Ken Guy could only muster a 3-under-par 32, which was good enough to finish second overall.  Built Rite Mfg.’s team of Pat McLaughlin, John Smith, Jim Poissant and Francis Devine fired a 5-under-par 30 to finish third for the night and third overall.  Josh Rourkela, Ed Whitman, Bob Halers and Bill Higgins of ID3 Designs fired an 8-under-par 27, for 2nd place for the evening–moving them up to sixth place overall.  Closest to the pin winners for the night were PJ Garvey on No. 4 and Ed Whitman on the 8th hole.  The Longest Drive winner was Ryan McGuire on hole No. 2.  The Steven Car Memorial Sportsman of the Year award went to Charlie Dickerman.
