Keegan Bradley hosts children’s cancer and opiate addiction research fundraiser at Woodstock Inn & Resort

WOODSTOCK — Vermont native Keegan Bradley, the 2011 PGA Tour Rookie of the year and a star of the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup team, returns to the Woodstock Inn & Resort Aug. 25 with fellow PGA Tour winner Brendan Steele to host the third annual Keegan Bradley Charity Golf Classic.

The event benefits the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation in its support of the Vermont Cancer Center and Vermont Children’s Hospital at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care to fund life-saving research for children battling cancer. Also, in recognition of Governor Peter Shumlin’s commitment to fight opiate addiction in Vermont, a portion of the proceeds will also benefit opiate addiction research and treatment programs at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care.

“Our tournament has been a great success the last two years on behalf of the Vermont Cancer Center,” said Bradley. “Childhood cancer and drug addiction deeply affect all of us Vermonters, and this year I’m proud to do what I can to raise awareness and funds for both those causes with the public’s help.”

The day begins at 11 a.m. with a free golf clinic with Keegan and Brendan. A reception follows play for 24 foursomes. Fans who would like to attend the clinic, purchase a $100 reception ticket or contribute to the cause may do so by visiting the event website, www.keeganbradley.com/charity.php.

Putnam Investments is again the presenting sponsor of the event. Leading additional underwriters include National Car Rental, Sugarbush, Zurich, Audemars Piguet and Srixon/Cleveland Golf.

“Putnam is pleased to partner with Keegan — for a third year in a row — to help fund life-saving research and provide much needed services for children battling cancer and their families in Vermont,” said Robert L. Reynolds, President and CEO, Putnam Investments.

“I appreciate Keegan’s personal commitment to the fight against both pediatric cancer and opiate addiction, two critical issues that threaten the safety and health of our children and communities,” Gov. Shumlin said. “Keegan’s success on the PGA tour has already made Vermonters proud.  His work over the past three years raising funds and awareness on these critical issues in his native Vermont makes us even more proud of Keegan.  I thank Keegan for helping us improve life here at home.”

Jeri Wilson, executive director of PCRF, said, “With funding for pediatric cancer research declining, we are grateful to Keegan for his incredible generosity and recognize his support of our families fighting cancer. I know the Vermont Cancer Center will strive every day to ensure their research delivers the greatest impact both locally and nationally.”
