LUDLOW—Lt. Governor Phil Scott visited one of Ludlow’s key businesses this past week. The Imerys Talc Facility, located on East Hill Rd. in Ludlow, has been in operation for almost 40 years. Formerly known as “Luzenac,” the facility has been mining and processing talc for applications such as building materials, paints, fillers, ceramics, agriculture, and coatings for paper.
Imerys is noted as a world-wide producer of talc. Scott was interested in seeing how the official state mineral of Vermont, talc, is mined, processed, packaged and delivered to all parts of the world from this small town located in the Okemo Valley. Imerys Site Operations Manager Terry Bane explained to Scott that it will continue to invest in its unique local ore bodies to meet the needs of high-end markets, such as talc for polypropylene reinforcement in light-weight vehicles. Imerys also discussed its “world class” efforts in managing environmental sustainability as well as continuing to support the local community through its involvement with the Okemo Valley Chamber of Commerce and the local Ludlow Town leadership.
