RUTLAND–Mount Saint Joseph Academy (MSJ) freshman Rory Carrara was recently chosen to perform a reading of her poem “How?” on the Regional Educational Television Network (RETN), according to a Feb. 12 press release. She was selected to appear on RETN as a “Millennial Writer on Stage” through the Vermont initiative known as the Young Writers Project. This is just the latest honor for Miss Carrara. Through the Young Writers Project, her poetry has often been chosen to appear in Vermont media outlets. MSJ English teacher Samantha Holmberg said, “Rory impresses me daily with her passion for the written word. She is a true poet, one who can’t help but express herself through writing.” Holmberg noted that she has shown development far beyond her years in her writing.
Carrara participates in a wide array of extracurricular activities at MSJ. In addition to being a member of the SLAM poetry club, she is an actor in the MSJ drama program and appeared in the fall play about Sept. 11, entitled “110 Stories.” She is also a member of the women’s soccer and basketball teams, and serves as an MSJ ambassador.
Her poetry reading may be viewed in between shows on RETN, and also on the RETN website www.retn.org.
