Quechee Club invests $4.4 million in pool expansion

By Stephen Seitz

QUECHEE — The Quechee Club’s aquatic center expansion is advancing and should be open in time for Memorial Day weekend, according to club General Manager Tim Lewis.  “Construction is coming along well,” he said.

The project received Act 250 approval last August. The project encompasses replacing and expanding the indoor and outdoor pools, expanding the interior pool area to include an aerobics room and extra storage space, a new maintenance access road, a new stormwater pond, and using 4,000 square feet of the soil to improve conditions at the ski hill, according to the engineering firm of SVE Associates.

Lewis said plans are to add more deck space and an outdoor kiddie pool, too. The snack bar will also be improved. Lewis said the project will wind up costing about $4.4 million.

“We raised the money for it ourselves,” he said.

Lewis said the expansion and renovation are needed because the current facilities are aging and becoming obsolete.

“The old pools are over 40 years old and deteriorating rapidly,” he said. “It’s better to replace them than repair them. The new pools will use less energy to heat them, and will be designed for energy efficiency.”

The club boasts a number of amenities besides the pool. It has two 18-hole golf courses, dining facilities, a health and fitness center, racquet sports, skiing, wilderness trails, and special events. Single memberships cost $5,000; family memberships $6,000.
