Police report fatal shooting in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY — On Feb. 15 at 11:28 p.m., Vermont State Police troopers from the Rutland barracks responded to a residence on Cold River Road in the town of Shrewsbury for a report of a shooting.

The caller reported being in a dispute with his girlfriend and that she had been shot. Upon arrival, they discovered a female subject deceased within the residence of an apparent gunshot injury. The male subject was taken into custody. The nature of the shooting is currently under investigation. The identity of the victim is being withheld while detectives work to make next of kin notification. 

Detectives are working with the Rutland County State’s Attorney and the identity of the male subject will be released when the charges are finalized.
