MT. HOLLY—On Feb. 3, at about 10 p.m., members of the Vermont State Police in Rutland were advised of a single motor vehicle crash, in which a pickup truck had driven off the road at the intersection of Hortonville Road and Cole Road in Mt. Holly, and crashed through a residence.

The truck was completely lodged in the living room, having gone through an exterior wall, police reported. One of the homeowners was reportedly sitting in the room next to the living room at the time, just feet away from possibly being struck if an interior wall hadn’t stopped the vehicle in the living room.

The operator, later identified as Garrett M. Lever, age 32, of Rutland Town, then put his truck into reverse and attempted to leave, but backed onto a well in the yard and could not get the truck off it.

The Mt. Holly Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene initially to assist the state police. When troopers arrived they found Lever on the scene outside the vehicle without serious injuries. The two passengers in the truck had fled the scene.

The police investigation determined that Lever had been driving under the influence of alcohol. Lever refused to provide a preliminary breath sample roadside. He was taken into custody and processed at the Rutland Barracks. He is scheduled to appear in Rutland Superior Court Criminal Division on Feb. 22 to answer to charges of DUI #2, plus possible other charges related to the crash.
