Two locals hit deer in Wallingford, neither injured

WALLINGFORD — On Dec. 11 at 5:19 p.m., members of the Vermont State Police responded to a call from Route 7 southbound in Wallingford, near the Wallingford/Clarendon town line, for a report of a single vehicle crash involving a deer.

Upon investigation, police learned that operator Roxane Johnsondelear age 53 of Tinmouth, Vt. was driving her 2007 Toyota Prius when she was unable to avoid colliding with a deer that had jumped into the lane of travel.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front-end. The vehicle appeared to be totaled and was towed from the scene. Lack of injury can be partially attributed to the operator wearing the seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said.

While on scene investigating this crash, a second motor vehicle crash occurred across the median at this location in the northbound lanes of travel. Dean Sherman, age 23 of Proctor, Vt., was driving his 2000 Saab 93, when the vehicle struck a second deer. This vehicle sustained minor damage mostly cosmetic in nature, and was able to be driven from the scene. Sherman was uninjured in the crash.
