Twas the Night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas on the Access Road,
Killington was buzzing in holiday mode.

Skiers were sad with so little snow,
but the town was lit up with holiday glow.

January is coming with shops ready to roll,
with the influx of guests, it will surely take a toll.

Not a creature was sober, not even a mouse,
as two single ladies stumble into their house.

With dreams of the New Year and a clean slate,
we fall asleep wishing that the morning brings us a mate.

I’m on the couch and my roommates in bed,
all the wine we drank, has gone to my head.

When outta my back pocket I felt a clatter,
I jumped off the couch to see what was the matter.

It was my iPhone buzzing quiet and late,
a mountain man who wants a date!

The pictures were good, he looks really fun,
but then I realize I’m tired and I’m done…

The new year is coming and I’m ready to meet
all the smart, tall, handsome skiers hopefully sweet.

I imagine my heart can still be fed,
with the visions of “Prince Charming” dancing in my head.

But for now it’s time to turn off the lights…
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

By Carly Berlin/VTDigger This story, by Report for America corps member Carly Berlin, was produced through a partnership between VTDigger and Vermont Public.
