POULTNEY–Green Mountain College Director of Athletics Keith Bosley announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, that Anthony DiBartolo will commence his collegiate head coaching career as the Eagles men’s lacrosse coach after being an assistant coach at the Division I level with Mount Saint Mary’s. DiBartolo takes over the helm of the GMC men’s lacrosse team as the seventh head coach in program history.
“We are very excited to have T.C. DiBartolo join the Green Mountain College athletic department as its new men’s lacrosse coach,” said Bosley. “T.C. has already accomplished as much in his young career having played Division I collegiate lacrosse, earned two major league lacrosse championships, led a pair of high school programs, and assisted collegiately. He brings with him a real passion for recruiting and we are more than confident that he will take a growing program and bring it to new heights.”
DiBartolo arrives at Green Mountain after being a part of his alma mater’s men’s lacrosse coaching staff for two years at Mount Saint Mary’s under head coach Tom Gravante. His responsibilities at the Mount included serving as the team’s goalie coach and assistant offensive coordinator, assisting with recruiting, organizing the University’s lacrosse camps, scouting opponents and developing the off-season workout programs.
“T.C. has a great understanding of the position he is inheriting and will continue with the momentum of revitalizing the lacrosse program and moving it forward,” said Gravante. “He has great experience recruiting and he is relentless on the recruiting trail. T.C. also boasts youth, passion, and organization and with the support of Green Mountain administration will be able to provide a substantial improvement to the program in the next one to three years.”
Aside from his experience at the Mount, DiBartolo has also coached at the high school level where he was the assistant athletic director and boys’ head lacrosse coach at Saint John’s Catholic Prep School in Maryland. In his one season there, his team finished with an 8-11 overall record. During his tenure at Saint John’s Catholic Prep, DiBartolo helped place numerous student-athletes at both the Division I and Division III ranks within the NCAA.He also initiated a boys’ varsity lacrosse program at Bowie High School, guiding the team through its inaugural season against some of the best teams in Maryland.
Having grown up playing youth lacrosse in Maryland, DiBartolo stayed close to home after graduating high school and completed a stellar four-year career at the Mount as one of the University’s best goalies in program history. He graduated from the Mount as the University’s all-time saves leader (726) and leader in wins (28). His 219 saves in 2010 was the second-best single-season mark in Mount history.
DiBartolo was named Most Valuable Player at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament after posting 25 saves in helping the Mount win the inaugural NEC title in 2011. In 2011, he was also named the NEC Defensive Player of the Year.
During his career DiBartolo captured two spots on the First Team All-NEC in 2010 and 2011 leading the conference in save percentage both years. His performance in net helped earn the team a berth in the NCAA Tournament as well as earn himself an honorable mention as an All-American in 2010.
DiBartolo’s .590 save percentage in 2010 and .609 mark in 2009 ranked him sixth in the nation and his 7.81 goals against average in 2009 set a new school record and placed him 10th in the nation. His 33-save performance in the 2010 postseason helped him capture a spot on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Tournament team for the second time in his career. He was honored in 2011 with a place in the annual USILA North-South All-Star game.
Upon completing his university career, DiBartolo was drafted in the 16th round of the Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft by the Chesapeake Bayhawks in 2012 and helped the Bayhawks to back-to-back championships during his short career.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity that has been granted to me by Mr. Bosley and Green Mountain College,” said DiBartolo. “I would like to thank Coach Gravante, my friends and family for all the support they have given me throughout my career. I am very humbled to be awarded such a tremendous position and to help mold young student-athletes. I look forward to helping guide them both on and off the field. My goal is to establish a winning tradition at Green Mountain and to help further grow the sport in the great state of Vermont.”
Green Mountain men’s lacrosse is coming off a 2015 campaign in which the Eagles made the North Atlantic Conference Championships for the first time since the College joined the conference in 2008-09. DiBartolo is excited to get started and continue the growth demonstrated last year.
“I cannot wait to get up to GMC and begin working with and getting to know the team,” said DiBartolo. “The goal, I believe, should be to compete in every game through hard work, effort and dedication. I have no doubt that this squad is hungry to build upon last year’s success.”
