Of parades and parties

On Halloween night, Saturday, Oct. 31, parades and parties hosted thousands of costumed locals and visitors to the region. At two of the bigger gatherings prizes were awarded, and folks put up amazing designs to win!

Wobbly Barn, Killington

The Wobbly Barn hosted a 21+ costumes-required party starting at 9 p.m. There was no cover, but donations were requested to support the Killington Fire Department.

DJ Dave Hoffenberg attended the event, photographed many of the award-winning costumes and shared this year’s crowned winners with The Mountain Times.

  • The first place individual prize was a Killington Season Pass. Charity’s waitress Danyelle Ryan Joaquin was awarded Best Overall Costume and won the pass.
  • The second place individual prize was two Tickets to the exclusive XX Masquerade in NYC on Nov. 14. was awarded to Kristen Spencer as the Jellyfish Man of War.
  • Trina Travalgia who dressed up as Casey’s Caboose received the third place recognition.
  • The first place couple prize went to Kelly Thomson and David Nihan Thompson as Yukon Cornelius. They won two Pico season passes.
  • The second place recognition went to Jordan Spear and Amy Morrison who were Smokey the Bear.
  • The first place group won dinner at the Wobbly Barn. The group dressed collectively as a Ski Shot (the individuals involved could not be identified by press time.)

The 2015 judges were Glenn Burres, Don Sady, Nancy Koch, Jennifer Miller, Kevin Olaynack Ben Colona, and Christopher Thayer.

The Rutland Halloween Parade

The Rutland Halloween Parade is the largest and longest running Halloween parade in the United States. Since 1960, the parade has had a strong superhero theme and has been the setting for a number of comic book adventures. To commemorate this link, this year Sen. Patrick Leahy unveiled the city’s newest mural on the side of the Gryphon Building.

Halloween Parade winners:

Superintendent’s Trophy

  • First place: Rutland Regional Medical Center
  • Runner-up: Stafford Technical Center

Mayor’s Trophy

  • First place: Proctor Junior/Senior High School
  • Runner-up: Rutland City Rotary

Department Trophy

  • First place: CHCRR Castleton Family Health
  • Runner-up: Mount St. Joseph Academy/Christ the King School

Best Costumed Marching Band

  • First place: Randolph Union High School
  • Runner-up: Rutland Town School

Best Costumed Marching Unit

  • First place: Studio 15
  • Runner-up: Rutland High School

Tom Fagan Award

  • Winner: All Seasons DJ Karaoke Service
  • Honorable Mention: Maple Street School
