Peter Austin Hike, 67, of Pittsfield, died Sunday Aug. 9, 2015 at his home.

He was born March 27, 1948 in Roslyn Heights, Long Island, N.Y., the son of Harold and Shirley (Stockwell) Hike.

He graduated from Darien High School and went on to attend The University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida.

In 1971 he married Elizabeth (Royer) Hike. He worked at the Killington ski area for 36 years as the night manager of the Peak. He was an avid skier and taught for Killington and the Elementary School. He was also a skate boarder, surfer, scuba diver, sailor, sailboarder, and bicycle racer. He built houses, rebuilt computers and cars; you could count on Peter to fix just about anything.

He was pre-deceased by a sister and is survived by a loving extended family.  He will be deeply missed by his friends and community.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held Saturday, Aug. 22, at 3 p.m. at the Killington Elementary School.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
