Jason Mikula proposed to Polly Lynn on Wednesday morning, June 24, on the banks of the Madison River in Cameron, Montana. Mikula and Lynn, who are co-publishers of The Mountain Times and live in Killington, Vt., were on vacation for the week — it was a place they had long talked about visiting. “It was on the bucket list,” the couple said of their fly-fishing trip to the Madison River.
Mikula successfully surprised Lynn with the ring as they shared a cup of coffee by the river Wednesday morning. Although the couple was approaching their six-year anniversary and had long talked of marriage, Lynn was stunned when Mikula got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. With tears flowing down her cheeks, Lynn said “yes.” They spent the rest of the day fishing and then enjoyed a picnic dinner and evening of fishing at Three Dollar Bridge. They estimate that they caught over two dozen fish each, capping off a truly perfect engagement day!
Mikula, originally from Montreal, and Lynn, who grew up in Vermont, both graduated from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vt. However, they met years later in Denver for the first time working at an international educational travel company. They moved to Killington in August of 2011 and shortly thereafter took over operations at The Mountain Times from the stewardship of the Barnards. Avid skiers, athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, the couple is happy to call the Green Mountains their home — although future trips to Montana will certainly be in the cards, too, they say.
