Brandon to vote on 1 percent sales option tax to fund capital projects

By Polly Lynn

BRANDON — The Town of Brandon will hold a special town meeting next Monday in preparation for Tuesday’s vote, June 30. The town Selectboard is asking voters to approve measures to “build a better Brandon” as Doug Bailey and Seth Hopkins, chair and vice-chair of the Brandon Selectboard, articulate in their letter by that same name (page 6.)

Voters will be asked to approve a charter allowing Brandon voters to choose to impose a 1 percent tax on sales, meals, rooms, and alcohol. The revenue will be specified only for capital projects. Voters will also have the option to approve purchasing the lot behind the Mobil station for municipal parking and as well as use as a staging area for construction equipment and materials. Also on the ballot, voters will be asked to authorize the select board to use unspent paving funds from paving projects for other public works projects.
