Jason Kendall, person of interest in Windsor homicide June 8

UPDATE (11:03 p.m. June 10): WINDSOR HOMICIDE SUSPECT, SUSPECTED DEAD
At approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, the Vermont State Police were contacted by the Kansas Highway Patrol about an incident possibly involving Jason Kendall, who is being sought for 2nd degree murder in the homicide of Molly Helland, of Windsor, Vt..  Earlier Wednesday, a car with stolen Massachusetts license plates was spotted by Kansas Patrol officers. During the attempt to stop the car, a high-speed chase ensued, ending with the crash of the subject vehicle, a silver Honda Accord.  As the officers approached the vehicle, they discovered the male driver (and only occupant of the vehicle) deceased of an apparent self inflicted gunshot wound.  Kansas officials are processing the scene and the driver is being identified through the autopsy process.  Preliminary investigation of physical description is consistent with that of Jason Kendall.

UPDATE (3:30 p.m. June 8): The victim has been identified as Molly Helland (age 22) of Windsor, Vt. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim (Helland) recently ended a relationship with her boyfriend, Jason Kendall (age 27) of Windsor.  Helland and Kendall have a child together and Helland had recently been living with her parents at 43 Main Street in Windsor.  Kendall is believed to be driving a 1996 Honda Accord, silver in color. A vehicle matching the description was seen leaving the area of 43 Main Street shortly after the shooting occurred.  Investigators are attempting to locate Kendall. Recent information indicates that Kendall may have changed license plates on this vehicle, from VT registration EAR558 possibly to MA registration 842YM3.

WINDSOR — Vermont State Police Rockingham and Royalton are assisting Windsor PD with a homicide that occurred in Windsor this morning, Monday, June 8. Police are seeking a person of interest Jason Kendall, age 27 of Windsor, who may be operating a 1996 silver Honda Accord with Vermont registration EAR558.

The shooting, which occurred around 7:15 a.m. in downtown Windsor, was characterized as a domestic homicide involving a female victim, state police said at a briefing in Windsor according to a report by The Valley News.

State police would not release any more information on the incident.

However, the superintendent of schools in Windsor ordered a lockdown of all of the schools in the Southeast Supervisory Union district as a precaution.

Checkpoints have been set up and police are interested in speaking to anyone with information regarding the incident or Kendal’s whereabouts.

Police say, if seen, do not approach, call 911.

This investigation is ongoing, anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police in Rockingham at (802)875-2112.
