Counting the birds with the Rutland County Audubon Society

…and a potluck dinner

Saturday, Dec. 30—RUTLAND—The Rutland County Audubon Society  hosts its annual Christmas Bird Count on Dec. 30. Participants may join a group and venture into different sections of the Rutland area to count the birds they observe. If you live within the count area, you can also participate by counting birds in your own backyard or feeder. After a day of bird counting, all participants are invited to attend a potluck supper at the Proctor Library at 6 p.m. This gathering provides an opportunity for birders to add up their counts and meet other likeminded individuals. It’s encouraged for attendees to bring a dish to share for the potluck, as well as their own plates, glasses, and silverware.

The Christmas Bird Count is an annual event that not only contributes to important bird population data but also allows for bird enthusiasts to connect with others who share their passion. Whether you’re an experienced birder or just starting out, this event provides an exciting opportunity to explore your local area and contribute to citizen science efforts.

To join a group, reach out to the society at birding@rutlandcountyaudubon.org.
