Police were dispatched to the crash on Route 4 in Killington (East side of the Pass).
Preliminary investigation determined that 71-year-old Mark J. Candon from Rutland was traveling east when he traveled across the center lane and into the west bound lane of travel and collided with a Marble Valley Regional Transit Bus (The Bus), that was traveling west. Conditions were snowy.
Candon was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The road remained closed for multiple hours Tuesday afternoon, opening to one lane at times.

The operator of The Bus, 82-year-old Gary E. Gilmore from N. Clarendon, and a female passenger were transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for suspected minor injuries.
