The Ottauquechee Health Foundation receives funding from the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation

WOODSTOCK—The Ottauquechee Health Foundation (OHF) has been awarded a $1,000 grant by the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation (NDD) to help OHF Good Neighbor Grant applicants who require oral health treatment, the organization announced May 20.

Since 1997, the Ottauquechee Health Foundation (OHF) has continued to serve a mission to promote and support programs that identify and help meet the health care needs in the towns of Barnard, Bridgewater, Hartland, Killington, Plymouth, Pomfret, Reading, Quechee, and Woodstock. OHF has provided over $2.7 million in support to both individuals and organizations over the past 18 years.

The mission of NDD is to improve access to and the quality of oral health care and education for the public and the dental communities in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The Foundation has awarded grants in Vermont since 1995. NDD administers dental benefits in Vermont and offers dental insurance programs for organizations, individuals and families with no access to employer-funded dental benefits programs.

“Access to quality oral health care is something we take seriously at Northeast Delta Dental, and, we know that the cost of this care is often a barrier. We are proud to partner with the Ottauquechee Health Foundation to help make achieving optimal oral health a little bit easier,” said Crystal Carroll, manager of community relations at Northeast Delta Dental.

The OHF Good Neighbor Grant program makes grants on behalf of individuals who have unmet health care needs because they cannot afford treatment.

In 2014, the Ottauquechee Health foundation funded $85,000 in 112 Good Neighbor Grants. These grants range from $100 to over $3,500, covering prescription medications, Lifeline subscriptions, oral health treatment, safety equipment, hearing aids, eye glasses, medical supplies, mental health counseling, physical therapy, and much more. Good Neighbor Grants applications are received and funded throughout the year.

Sherry Thornburg, executive director of the Ottauquechee Health Foundation, stated, “Given the changes in health care costs and insurance coverage, we find that many in our community put off addressing important health care needs until they are in severe pain or their situation has worsened. Thanks to this generous grant from the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation, more individuals in our community will receive the oral health care treatment they need.”
