Killington named top family ski resort

Killington Resort has been named one of the 2023-2024 best family ski resorts by FamilySkier.com.

“Our readers consistently report having a great skiing experience at Killington, and we like both the breadth of the lift system as well as the healthy amount of beginner and intermediate terrain — 28% green and 33% blue runs,” the website states. “Killington’s six mountains and active base area can give it a busy feel, but it doesn’t take long to get away from it all especially if you are with an instructor who knows what they are doing.  The runs are classic New England, with long, winding routes through trees, and plenty of options that aren’t too steep for beginners.

“Killington’s ski school is well-established, having been in business for over 50 years, and private lessons are available for children as young as 2 years old!  For non-skiers, Killington has boomed with many dining options as well as other entertainment, and … ways to get outside without having your feet strapped to skis or a snowboard.”

The list was created with input from a panel of ski enthusiasts, parent and travel bloggers, and other ski writers. Key criteria included great skiing or snowboarding, a setting that was inviting to families and children, a long track record, and activities in the area for non-skiers.

Also on the list was Deer Valley, Utah Steamboat Springs in Colorado, Big Sky in Montana, Palisades Tahoe in California and Whistler in Canada.

“For families, one thing we always look for is adequate lodging. Families need to be able to choose from more than just standard hotel rooms. Killington has lots of great mountainside lodging, ranging from posh to standard, suites to full home vacation rentals. Add over 100 restaurants, and the comfort factor of traveling to Killington is very high,” Family Skier Founder Paul Miller said. “Families usually want a really good ski school, and Killington’s has a good reputation. It’s not just for kids, either. Adult lessons at Killington are highly-regarded, and there is plenty of varied terrain to hone your skills.”

Family Skier has been writing about skiing and snowboarding, snow gear, and winter family destinations for 13 years, is privately held and not affiliated with any resorts or ski companies. The complete list can be found at FamilySkier.com/best-family-ski-resorts.
