RUTLAND — Rutland Youth Theatre presents Disney’s “Mulan, Jr. – the Musical” at the Paramount Theatre on Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Defying the village matchmaker, Mulan takes up arms and disguises as a boy in order to spare her father from having to serve in the army. The Huns have invaded, and it is up to the misfit, Mulan, and her mischievous sidekick Mushu to save the Emperor! Then, on May 17 and 18 from 6-8 p.m., Rutland Youth Theatre is holding open auditions for its Summer Traveling Troupe – Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet.” Auditions will be held at the Courcelle Building, 16 North Street Extension in Rutland, and are open to those entering grades 7 – 12. Rehearsals will be scheduled for Monday and Wednesday nights as well as Saturdays.
Produced by Saskia Hagen Groom and directed by Amberly Soto, it is the story of Romeo and Juliet who secretly wed despite the sworn contempt their families hold for each another. It is not long, however, before a chain of fateful events changes the lives of both families forever.
Performances will be held between July 22 and Aug. 2 throughout the greater Rutland area.
