Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. — RUTLAND — Rutland Regional Medical Center celebrates National Nurses Week (May 6-12), which proudly celebrates the role nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality care to their patients, with a special screening of the award-winning documentary “The American Nurse.” The American Academy of Nursing’s Excellence in Media Award winner highlights the work and lives of five American nurses from diverse specialties, and explores important topics such as aging, war, poverty and prisons.
The movie will be screened on Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre on 30 Center Street in Rutland. Registration is not required and the event is free and open to the public.
“When I started to dig into the world of nurses, I recognized a few things right away,” said the filmmaker Carolyn Jones in a director’s statement. “They are different. They see the human being first. They are trained, conditioned, born to find the avenue into understanding others so that they can do their work. That work is to heal and make someone feel better – no matter who they are, what their ethnic background is, what political party they belong to, what crime they have committed. This gives them a special set of tools – they are full of tolerance and understanding, compassion and love. And it’s beautiful.”
