Friday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. — The Bells of Joy Handbell Choir, under the direction of Karen James will present its 32nd annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8 in the chapel of the Rutland United Methodist Church, 71 Williams Street.
Musical offerings from the church calendar year, as well as original compositions by contemporary composers, spirituals and other well known selections, like Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” and “What a Wonderful World,” will be presented by the 12 ringers on this unique instrument of 57 handbells and hand chimes. Included in the program will be a piano/handbell duet arrangement of “He Touched Me” played by pianist Kyle Stoodley and director Karen James.
The program will feature Francis Poulenc’s “Flute Sonata,” presented by Sam Rodgers, flute, and Kate Cusson, piano, both Music Education majors at Castleton State College, as they prepare for their upcoming senior recitals.
A free will offering will be received to support the continuing education of the handbell choir. The Rutland United Methodist Church is located at the corner of Williams and Chestnut Streets in Rutland.
