Preschoolers get a taste of Kindergarten

Preschoolers spend a day as Kindergartners.

KILLINGTON — Children in the preschool at Killington Elementary School, known as P@K, have had an opportunity to visit and enjoy the kindergarten room they will attend in the fall. Since the P@K is housed in the elementary school building, K/1 teacher, Melissa Knipes, is able to get to know her future students and introduce them to their upcoming classroom experience in a fun and stress-free setting.

Mrs. Knipes commented, “Many preschoolers walk by the classroom wondering what kindergarten will be like. Beginning in March, preschoolers visit the kindergarten class and participate in math or reading activities. This is a great time for the preschoolers to meet and work with their peers. We have a lot of fun.”

Those with children not currently attending the KES preschool program can also make an appointment for a class visit by contacting the school, she said.

Registration took place on Wednesday, April 22.

KES welcomes students from Killington and the surrounding towns of Pittsfield and Plymouth who have school choice, as well as individual tuition students. In order to enroll in kindergarten, a child must be five years old before Sept. 1, 2015.
