Cavendish celebrates solar

Town officials invite the public to celebrate the official opening of the municipal solar array in Cavendish .

CAVENDISH—The Cavendish Select Board and Energy Committee announce the grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting for its new municipal solar array, to be held Monday, April 20 at 11 a.m., at the site. Construction of the solar array was completed in December 2014, and town officials had planned a simple celebration in February, but when the snow levels grew they postponed it to the spring.

The Cavendish municipal solar array site is located off Power Plant Road next to the wastewater treatment plant. All citizens and residents of Cavendish are invited to attend. After the ribbon-cutting and remarks a reception with light refreshments will be held at the Cavendish town offices, 37 High Street.

The solar array will power municipal facilities. It is designed to produce 148 kW of AC electricity as a net-metered system. The array feeds all generated electricity into the grid, and Green Mountain Power, LLC, will offset that generated electricity against the electricity used by the town offices, the transfer station, the water filtration plant and the wastewater treatment system.

To facilitate planning, the town requests those wishing to attend to please RSVP to Cavendishsolar@CavendishVT.org.
