Select Board names new fire chief search committee

By Curt Peterson

At its July 11 meeting the Killington Select Board emerged from executive session to announce names of those appointed to thefire chief search committee.

Select Board chair Steve Finneron and Town Manager Chet Hagenbarth will serve as facilitators and non-voting members of the committee. Three residents were named as voting members: Tom Rock, Barry Leete and Jim Lewis.

All three submitted letters of interest in serving as members of the committee. According to Select Board member Jim Haff, the committee will soon set a date for their kick-off meeting.

The Killington Fire and Rescue Department became municipal departments after voters approved an article incorporating them this past Town Meeting in March. The organization occupies the new Public Services Building on Killington Road along with the town’s police department.

The position of fire chief, currently held by Gary Roth, will become a paid position for the first time in the town’s history.
