Chandler Center for the Arts present youth musical June 30-July 2

Thursday, June 30 — RANDOLPH — Chandler Center for the Arts presents “Legally Blonde: The Musical” Performances on June 30, July 1 and 2 at 7 p.m. as well as a matinee show on July 3 at 3 p.m.

For almost 25 years we’ve been entertaining Randolph and the surrounding area with our summer youth musical and this year it’s back on stage!

The nearly quarter-century tradition continues this year with “Legally Blonde, the Musical,” a fun, upbeat story of self-discovery with Harvard’s Elle Woods taking the stage by pink storm.

“Legally Blonde, the Musical,” is based on the novel by Amanda Brown, which was later adapted into a 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon. The musical opened on Broadway in 2007. “Legally Blonde” music and lyrics are by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin with book by Heather Hach.

The Chandler production features young actors from throughout the region.

Randolph native Joshua Huffman, who studied dance, theater and German at University of Vermont, and recently graduated with his degree will direct the musical. Huffman’s credits include Humpty Dumpty and Mad Hatter in “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Standing in This Place” at Chandler’s 2019 Vermont Pride Festival.

Making his SYM musical directorial debut is Breydan Medbury.  He is currently a music education major at the University of Vermont. Breydan has worked on musicals such as Mary Poppins, Into the Woods, the Addams Family, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, On the Town and Les Miserables, as well as Operas such as La Boheme, Madame Butterfly and Carmen.

Celeste Piette will be the choreographer.  Celeste is a theatre artist currently based in Burlington and is a recent graduate of the University of Vermont. She has worked on countless shows in almost every role a person can have in the theatre, from writing, to directing, to wardrobe, to acting, and of course, choreography.  Her most recent production credits include To Skip, Or Not To Skip (Playwright & Director, UVM, 2022), She Kills Monsters (Assistant Director, UVM, 2022), and Hamlet (Horatio & Player, Foul Contending Rebels, 2021).

Jennifer Stickney will serve as the elementary chorus camp director.

“After over 10 years of retirement from all things theater,” Stickney said, “I am very pleased to be joining the Chandler team for this production.”

Over the years, she has performed numerous leading roles in opera and musical theatre in the Philadelphia area. Favorite roles include Josephine in “HMS Pinafore,” Mabel in “Pirates of Penzance,” Maria in “West Side Story,” and Cosette in “Les Misérables.”
