BarnArts Outdoor Theater presents ‘Five Women Wearing the Same Dress’

June 24-26 & June 30 – July 3— BARNARD — Barn Arts will host outdoor performances at the old Feast & Field location across from Fable Farm Orchard on Royalton Turnpike in Barnard this weekend and next weekend. Please allow 5-10 minutes to walk from parking to performance location. Drop off and handicapped parking available.

“Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” was written by Alan Ball. During an ostentatious wedding reception at a wealthy Tennessee home, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent, and touching celebration of the women’s spirit. Set in 1990s Knoxville, this comedy reveals five relatable, powerful, vulnerable women (and one man!) as they laugh, boast, squirm and cry over sex, drugs, AIDS, sexual predation, religion and more. Viewer Discretion Advised.  This adult comedy contains adult themes.

The NY Post called it “An irreverent and funny look at the intricacies of friendship and the power of similar dressing…[a] wonderfully entertaining play…”

TheaterWeek called it: “Ball has the comic writer’s requisite talent for dialogue that ricochets snappily around the stage.”

The performance stars: Willow Carr, Cliff Johnson, Joanna Kell, Anna King, Chelsea Paige, Tapley Trudell. It is directed by Jill Clough.

Shows are Friday, Saturday and Thursday at 7 p.m. on June 24, 25, 30, July 1 and 2 . On Sundays, June 26 and July 3, shows are at 4 p.m.
