Opening reception of the Vermont Pastel Society member exhibition to be hosted by Chaffee

Saturday, June 11 at 4 p.m. — RUTLAND — The Chaffee Art Center invites the community to the opening reception of the Vermont Pastel Society member exhibition in the first floor galleries on Saturday, June 11 from 4-6 p.m. The opening will include light refreshments, music by pianist Marna Grove and the presentation of awards.There is no charge for admittance. A donation would be appreciated. This exhibit will be up until July 22.

Cristine Kossow of VPS writes “The Vermont Pastel Society is thrilled to return to the Chaffee Art Center for its 2022 Member Exhibition. Fifty-Eight works of pastel painting will be hung throughout the elegant galleries of the Chaffee Art Center”.

The Vermont Pastel Society was founded in 1999 and has over 100 member artists. The mission is to promote the beauty of pastel, nurture the growth of individual artists through many classes and services, and to build connections among pastel artists.

Kate Gridley will be the juror of awards. She is a conceptual realist painter based in Middlebury, known for her insights into human character, the quality of light in her work, and her painting technique. Gridley’s work is represented by the Edgewater Gallery, in its Middlebury and Boston venues; and Francesca Anderson Fine Art, Lexington, MA. View her work at kategridley.com/.

Chaffee artist members will also have work on display and for sale in the upstairs galleries, as well as in the gallery shop that is filled with handmade treasures and gift ideas for any occasion, or even for yourself!

As we celebrate 61 years as an art center in the Rutland Community, we also invite you to join as an artist, single or family member to help the Chaffee to continue to inspire and cultivate creativity, while positively impacting the vitality of our community through the arts.

Visit the Chaffee during open hours to experience the historic building and the wonderful works of art throughout, plus our Gallery Shoppe. While here, picture your next event, bridal shower, wedding, meeting or retreat being held in this beautiful 1890s mansion, fondly known by its first owners as Sunny Gables.
