Rutland Rec reels in new programming

Starting Saturday, May 21, Rutland Recreation and Parks is offering opportunities for youth in the community to learn to fish. Rutland Recreation first started to offer fishing programming last year at summer day camps with the help of Corbin Shattuck, instructor and founder of 802 Fishin, LLC.

Shattuck taught casting on dry land, fishing etiquette, and general rules of the sport. Then the campers got to fish. After seeing a growing interest throughout the summer, Shattuck wanted to expand his offerings and offer an additional camp focused on a day-long excursion highlighting conservation, exploration, and fishing.

This new camp, “Conservation and Exploration Camp,” is available for students ages 11-14. Registration is $50 for city residents, and $61 for non-residents, max eight students with pre-registration required.

There are currently two camp days scheduled, Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, June 5 and more will be scheduled as interest grows through the summer and fall.
