Douglas Hugh McKenna, 66

Douglas Hugh McKenna Jr. passed away on April 2, 2022 in White River Junction, Vermont.  Douglas was born on May 10, 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware and was the son of Douglas and Virginia McKenna.  His father was an executive at DuPont de Nemours and he relocated his family to Geneva, Switzerland in 1963.

Douglas Jr. attended The International School of Geneva, Aiglon College.  While at Aiglon he excelled in camping mountain expeditions in the Swiss Alps, alpine ski racing, and also participated on the swim team, track & field and baseball.   He also enjoyed playing guitar in the high school band.

He continued his education at College du Leman in Versoix, Gstaad International School and completed his studies at Leichester Polytechnic in England. He also worked for DuPont in Geneva.

In 1976 he served in the United States Navy for 12 years where he was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska and Ewa Beach, Hawaii. He was a P3 Navigator launching sonar buoys into the Bering Sea during the Cold War monitoring Soviet submarines.

While he was stationed in Hawaii, he met his wife Tami and they relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida,  and there they both served in the Naval Reserve from 1988-1995. They married and had two daughters.

In 1992, Doug graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a degree in avionics and two other degrees.   He went on to work for Lockheed and spent two years in Saudi Arabia.

He is survived by his wife Tami, his daughter Heather, brothers David, William, and Andrew, sister Jeanette and her husband Andrew and son Cameron.

The struggles in Doug’s life were great and grave.  He had so many talents, but succumbed to the dark side of life.  We hope his faith shall lead him to the light that he so desired.

There will be a private burial in Willington, Delaware at a later date.
