Groms impress at Mini Shred Madness

By Brooke Geery

Pico played host to the second edition of 2021/22 Mini Shred Madness last Saturday, Feb. 26. Despite warm temps in the leadup melting out much of the snow, the park crew was able to put together a special setup at the bottom of the Exhibition trail for the kids to enjoy, with four mini-sized jibs and a jump. Cold, crisp air and bright blue skies made for ideal conditions on the day of the competition.

Kids ages 13 and under on skis and snowboards clamored to gather speed and pull off tricks old and new, while the Killington parks and events teams handed out tokens for anyone who caught their eye. Deejay Dave Hoffenberg kept the energy up with the music for both the grom and supergrom sessions.

The rail jam format of the event is designed to give the kids a taste of competition, but also help them learn park etiquette and encourage each other in a fun environment, and the smiles at the end proved it was a success.
