Cobra gymnasts capture wins at annual meet, Feb. 7-8

The Cobra gymnastics team in Rutland were among 176 gymnasts from seven Vermont gymnastics schools that participated in the annual Green Mountain Invitational in Williston Feb. 7-8.

Cobra’s Bronze team came home with a team win a multiple gold medals at the Green Mountain Invitational in Willison.

Shining stars from Cobra include Hazel Mabey, London Febbie, Bay Sparks, Sadie White, Amelia Gibbs and Maleah Jones as they compiled some of their personal best all-around scores landing them a place in the top 10 of the 176 participants.

The Bronze team represents the youngest participants, ages 6-10, and triumphed with a team win and multiple event gold medals in their respective age groups. Included are Mabey, (vault 9.50, bars 9.725, beam 9.65 and all-around 37.675), Sparks (vault 9.575, bars 9.50, beam 9.50 and all-around 37.525), Makayla Hutt-Vater (vault 9.30, floor 8.90, all-around 36.775), Ella Lamson (bars 9.475, beam 9.275), Amelia Falco (floor 9.20), Avalon Rheaume (bars 9.40, beam 9.20).

The Silver team captured a close team win over Sunrise Gymnastics and Green Mountain Training Center. Gold medalists include Febbie (bars 9.5, floor 9.7, all-around 37.6), Amelia Gibbs (beam 9.375), Karsyn Kootz (beam 9.325), Lillie Sheldrick (bars 9.40), Nataley Wilson (beam 9.225).

The Gold and Platinum teams achieved individual gold medals from White (beam 9.30), Phoebe Tashjian (vault 9.50, all-around 36.675), Eda Mae Fioretti (vault 9.225), Iris Tucker (floor 9.3) and Mia Harrington (bars 9.05).

The Diamond team represents the most experienced Cobra gymnasts and attained their highest team score of the season to capture the team win. Individual gold medalists include Jones (vault 9.05, bars 9.375, floor 9.40 and all-around 37.125), Robin Tashjian (vault 9.35, floor 9.25, all-around 36.775), Lissa King (beam 9.60, floor 9.25) and Jada Hughes (bars 9.50).

The entire 54 member team will be traveling to Massachusetts for the Hip Hop Classic at the end of February and the Diamond Team is planning a trip to the Rhode Island Classic in March. Cobra is currently starting the winter/spring session of gymnastics. Registration information can be found at cobravt.com.
