CSJ weekly sports round-up

By Justin Lemanski, athletics reporter

The Fighting Saints basketball teams were unable to walk away with a title at the 2015 USCAA national tournament, but they did break some all-time records during play.

The men’s team tied its own record of collecting 65 rebounds during its game against Penn-State Beaver that went into triple overtime.

The women’s team had its share of records as well: it tied Penn-State Beaver for steals in a game at 18 and now hold the record for blocks in a game with 14. Regina Steele set records with 10 blocks in a game and 24 rebounds.

Baseball and softball

The Fighting Saints baseball and softball teams will be busy this coming week at they head to Newport News, Va., for another set of spring training games. The men will match up against Finger Lakes CC, Thomas Nelson College, Apprentice College, and Tufts University. The women will face Surry CC, Richard Bland and New River CC.

Chloe Strong

The men’s baseball has also been involved in the support of Chloe Fuller, who is a 6-year-old Leukemia patient.  The 45 players on the Saints roster put together a care package for her consisting of posters, t-shirts, and personal cards.

“You guys did something that really made a difference for someone who needs and deserves it, and I’m more proud of the fact that many of you have asked about what we can do to help her more,” said coach Cam Curler in a message to his players.

The Saints also plan on helping in the fundraising process as well; the goal for Chloe’s family is to raise a total of $15,000. At this point, they are just over $10,000.
