Police respond to single car rollover

KILLINGTON—On March 8, at about 9 p.m., troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks responded to a single vehicle rollover crash with injuries on US Route 4 in Killington. Investigation determined that the operator, Matthew D. Greenfield age 29 of New Haven, Conn., was exceeding the posted speed limit while traveling eastbound just east of Winterberry Road Extension when the vehicle lost control on the snow and ice-covered road surface. The vehicle traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic, and as Greenfield overcorrected and steered back into the eastbound lane of travel, his vehicle struck the guardrail on the south side of the roadway. His vehicle, a 2001 Mazda Tribune, overturned and came to rest on top of the snowbank and guardrail. It was deemed totaled by first responders at the scene.

One passenger in the vehicle sustained an injury to his right hand. The passenger was unidentified by police but they confirmed that he was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Speed and road conditions were both contributing factors in this crash, police reported. Greenfield was issued a traffic ticket for driving too fast for conditions-accident resulting.

Killington Fire and Regional Ambulance assisted with this crash.
