FAIR HAVEN — To help meet the food needs of local communities, Fair Haven Concerned has recently made several changes. The Food Shelf is now centrally located and looks more like a grocery store. We are happy to report that we have also increased our hours of operation. The Food Shelf is now opened daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This has meant an increased need for volunteers as well. The Community Room of the Food Shelf is open to all and anyone can take advantage of these food items nearing their shelf life. This food is given to us by local grocery stores and farmers. Our executive, Tracy Yendell, reports that the new operation is working well.
During the summer months, the Food Shelf receives many donations of fresh vegetables. Thanks to a grant from the Food Bank another new program will soon be available. The grant will allow Fair Haven Concerned to hire a consultant who will be working with volunteers to make Dinners to Go bags. The bags will come complete with all the ingredients needed to make a healthy meal using ingredients that are in season and recipes for the different dishes.
Fair Haven Concerned is looking toward the winter heating needs. We have a “FUN”raiser planned for Sept. 26 from 4-7 p.m. This event will be held at the Kingston Place Barn located in Benson. They will be opening the dance floor and we are so excited to have the Aaron Audet Band available to perform for the event. Like our previous galas, we will have a silent auction, cash bar, and the 50/50 raffle. The menu includes local fall favorites, chicken and biscuits and apple crisp from the Wheel Inn.
