Rutland Town voters were in an agreeable mood when they cast their ballots last week. They approved all money items, both the $7,847,080 school budget and $992,065 general fund town budget.
They were amenable, too, in approving the town’s $3 million surplus, giving a nod to putting $1.5 million toward current expenses, paying $1 million for a fire station construction bond in $90,000 annual installments, and shelling out $700, 000 for a new town highway garage. They also looked to the future, authorizing the Select Board to transfer future surpluses to a capital account.Re-elected to school board is incumbent Nicole McPhee.
Paul Clifford received voter approval for a three-year seat Select Board seat, having run uncontested to fill the seat vacated by Steve Hawley. The new delinquent tax collector is Christopher Howland, former Rutland Town justice of the peace, defeating incumbent James Scholtz in a close vote.
