Vegetable garden grant has KMS looking forward to spring

KILLINGTON—With the deep snowpack outside, it might be hard to imagine turning over soil in garden beds and planting seeds, but spring will be here soon, and it will be time to get vegetable and flower gardens ready for planting.

Killington Mountain School was recently awarded a grant of $600 for its community garden from the New England Grassroots Environmental Fund, thanks to an application submitted by KMS executive chef, Rhonda Benoit. The money will go toward the purchase of seeds, compost, gardening tools, and other materials for this year’s KMS garden. Last spring, raised beds were constructed for the front, grassy area of the campus, and with the help of nine-month students and staff a variety of vegetables was planted, many of which Benoit was ultimately able to use in meal preparation.
