SUV drives over Corvette in Rutland Town

On Friday, May 21, at 4:22 p.m., troopers from the state police Rutland Barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 7, near McKinley Ave, in Rutland Town.

Through investigation it was determined that Jason Weedman, 37, of Pittsford was driving a 2007 Dodge Nitro, a compact SUV. He was following a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette driven by Bruce Welsh, 72, with passenger Linda Watson, 73, of Clarendon, traveling north on Route 7.

When Welsh slowed down intending to turn left onto McKinley Ave., Weedman struck the rear of the Corvette and drove over the top of it.

Welsh sustained a brain bleed and transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center and then later to UVM Medical Center. At this time, his injuries are not expected to be life threatening. His Corvette was totaled according to the police report.

Linda Watson suffered minor injuries.

Jason Weedman was transported to RRMC and was reported to have a broken nose and ankle pain. He was processed there for suspicion of DUI drugs. Prosecution is pending the results of the evidentiary blood draw. His Dodge Nitro suffered damage to the right fender and undercarriage.

The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Rutland Town Fire Dept. and Regional Ambulance Service.
