Friday and Saturday, May 28-29 —KILLINGTON—The Greater Killington Women’s Club is holding a plant sale on Friday, May 28 and Saturday, May 29 of Memorial Day weekend. The plant sale will be held in the parking lot of Killington Market between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days. The club will be offering hanging flower baskets and hardy locally grown perennials. As you are cleaning up your garden this spring, consider dividing up some crowded perennials and donating them to the plant sale.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will support the club’s scholarship and community giving program. In more than half a century of service to the Killington community, the club has given away over $100,000 to local organizations, schools and non-profits. The club has contributed to Killington Elementary School for many years. Our contributions have funded new nurse’s cots, Kid’s Kingdom repairs, a new audiometer hearing test instrument, school security equipment, supplies, Lego Robotics equipment, iPads, the KES sign at the corner of School House Road, and the KES principal’s Sunny Day Fund for discretionary expenses. In 2017, the club was one of the major sponsors of the Fairy Tale Festival organized by the Sherburne Memorial Library.
The Greater Killington Women’s Club also funds an academic scholarship and a community service award to high school graduating seniors each year. The academic award is awarded to the Woodstock Union High School graduating senior from Killington with the highest weighted grade point average. The Pat Zack Community Service Award is awarded to a graduating high school senior from Killington or Pittsfield who has demonstrated a commitment to community service. For the past several years these awards have been $1,000 apiece, with a total of $10,000 being awarded in the last five years.
