Uncle Dave’s non-commercial radio holds spring fundraising campaign

Local station WEXP-FM DJ “Uncle Dave” in the studio at the Vermont Farmers’ Food Center, Rutland.

RUTLAND—WEXP Community Radio for Rutland County and Killington Valley has kicked off the station’s spring fundraising campaign. The radio campaign will run May through June.

Since non-commercial stations like WEXP 101.5 FM legally cannot accept advertisements, they raise operating capital for the station through donations, notably from listeners.

Radio Personality, Uncle Dave, said, “We do a different kind of radio here; we are a non-commercial station, so you don’t have whole blocks of commercials; it’s about music and about community.”

The community radio station —broadcasting from the campus on the Vermont Food Center in downtown Rutland — plays good old rock ‘n’ roll, blues, jazz, country, and community talk.

It’s more than just music, explained Uncle Dave, “We have a nice group of people here at the radio station.”

From May and June, listeners will be treated to a line-up of in-studio performers at 12-noon.

Shows are live and Uncle Dave says they have a great line-up of local artists.
