RUTLAND—Head Over Heels Gymnastics had a full house Wednesday, Feb. 18 for its Cheer Hawaii Fundraiser/open gym at its location on North Main Street, Rutland.
The main focus of the event was to raise money for two Fair Haven cheerleaders, Mollie Coltey and Sophia Rampone, both sophomores at Fair Haven Union High School and members of the FHUHS Varsity cheerleading team. The girls have the opportunity to attend Cheer Hawaii, a week-long summer camp this June for cheerleaders all across the United States. Cheer Hawaii combines leadership skills, tumbling, stunting and dance clinics with a taste of Hawaiian culture, providing a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Both girls have expressed goals which they are striving for and look forward to the benefits of this experience.
“I’m most excited about meeting all the girls from all the different states,” said Coltey. “It’s going to be really cool to work with other girls who know more than we do or things that we don’t know, so learning from them will be an awesome experience. One of my teammates went last year, and she brought back whole routines and dances.…we’ve used some of the dances and stunts in our routines this year,” she added.
When asked how working on fundraisers, like the recent open gym at Head Over Heels, has helped the two prepare, Coltey said, “I think working for it makes it so much more meaningful and I think it really builds up my excitement to go.” Rampone agreed.
Anyone wishing to help support the girls’ Cheer experience can mail donations to: Mollie Coltey / Sophia Rampone, 253 Rt 4A West, Castleton, VT 05735.
