“Waste Land” documents world’s largest dump

Billings Farm & Museum screens “Waste Land” as part of its fifth annual film series.

Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. — WOODSTOCK — Billings Farm & Museum will host the award-winning film “Waste Land” on Saturday, March 7 at 3 p.m. as part of the 5th Annual Woodstock Vermont Film Series.

“Waste Land” follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located outside Rio de Janeiro. There, he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores,” or self-designated pickers of recyclable materials, who call it home. The film contains some subtitles and is not rated. It garnered an Academy Award nomination, Best Documentary; additional 28 wins, eight nominations.
