Roundabout opens in Hartford

Two new roundabouts debuted this week in Hartford. Construction around the project is expected to continue through the fall, but the traffic pattern change is immediate.

On Tuesday, May 4, motorists saw a traffic pattern change  in Hartford at the intersection of US Route 5 and Sykes Mountain Avenue and at the intersection of Sykes Mountain Avenue and Ralph Lehman Drive, as motorists began using two new roundabouts.

In the immediate future, motorists are advised to use caution as new signage will be installed and the area will have limited line-striping and symbols, along with traffic cones and on-site police presence to help motorists navigate the roadway. Access to businesses along US Route 5 and Sykes Mountain Avenue will be maintained.

The roundabouts are both single-lane and are being installed to improve safety for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians in Hartford. The project also includes the removal and replacement of curb and new drainage infrastructure.

Construction is expected to be completed at the end of October 2021. The timing of this work is weather dependent.
