Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. — Impact Fair Haven will be sponsoring their first teen dance for youth in grades 6 through 12 on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 7 – 9:30 p.m. at the Fair Haven Grade School. The dance will be held in the gym and chaperones from both Impact Fair Haven and the Fair Haven Grade School will be on hand. Music will be provided by a local DJ and there will be donated door prize drawings held throughout the evening. Cost is $3 per person and there will be refreshments available for purchase.
Impact Fair Haven began in September 2014 when the Congregational Church asked people in the area to come together and celebrate what is great about Fair Haven, and discuss what would make the area (including surrounding towns) even better, especially for people who are often forgotten. The town manager, police chief, director of Fair Haven Concerned, school administrators, and several area residents came together with church folks, and immediately the need to have healthier, fun experiences for youth stirred enthusiasm. They remembered being bored as kids and Chief Humphries shared his experience hosting dances in a community nearby.
They are exploring lots of different ways to make Fair Haven an even greater place to live – like a community center with a gym, and spaces for groups of all ages to have fun together — and also working on women’s self-defense classes, abuse prevention training, and projects with schools, churches, town, police, and community groups (including the Legion and Castleton College). They meet one hour a month in the library at Fair Haven Grade School.
