KILLINGTON—Killington Elementary School is participating in the Whole School Energy Challenge and during the upcoming February break, the last week of February, the school will embark on a “hibernation vacation.” This is when we will unplug and turn off all the electronics, such as smart-boards, computers, and projectors. KES will do this because after using kilowatt meters, students were able to learn that even when a computer or charger is turned off or not charging, these appliances still use electricity and cost a lot of money. The reason behind these hibernation vacations is to cut down on the phantom current by actually unplugging, in addition to turning off. Students can do this at their homes, too, by using surge protectors and making sure everything is turned off. It will save energy and money!
