Thursday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. — KILLINGTON — Funk-music icon George Clinton and his band Parliament Funkadelic will appear in concert on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Pickle Barrel Nightclub in Killington. The show is open to anyone 21 years of age and older.
George Clinton has been cited as one of the foremost innovators of funk music, along with James Brown and Sly Stone. Recording both as Parliament and Funkadelic during the 70s, Clinton revolutionized R&B by adding influences from several late 60s acid heroes like Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, and Sly Stone. Clinton and his band took funk to new heights, blending elements of jazz, rock, pop, classical and even gospel into his productions. The group produced over 40 R&B hit singles and three platinum albums.
Clinton has received a Grammy, a Dove (gospel), and an MTV music video award, and has been recognized by BMI, the NAACP Image Awards, and Motown Alumni Association for lifetime achievement. Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
Advance tickets for George Clinton may be purchased online, at JAX Food & Games, or at the Pickle Barrel during business hours. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the performance. Doors open at 8 p.m. The Pickle Barrel is located midway on the Killington Road.
