WCUD narrows superintendent search to two

Rebecca Holcombe

Former Sec. of Ed Rebecca Holcombe and interim Super. Sherry Sousa are finalists

The former Vermont secretary of education (2014-2018) and gubernatorial candidate in 2020, Rebecca Holcomb, is a finalist for the Windsor Central Unified District (WCUD) superintendent position.

“We are enthusiastic about presenting two finalists for the position, Sherry Sousa, MA and Rebecca Holcombe, PhD,” wrote the search committee in a press release, Feb. 8.

Sousa is the currently the interim superintendent.

WCUD has undertaken an extensive recruitment process for the position. As tasked by the WCUD board chair, the superintendent search committee comprised of four board members, a senior leader in the district, a teacher, support staff and a high school student.

The committee received 22 applications. Eight candidates were asked to submit video presentations based on directed prompts about their approaches to leadership, a plan for their first 90 days in the district and their passion for education. From there, four semifinalists were virtually interviewed, and two candidates (Sousa and Holcombe) have been asked to present for final interviews and an opportunity to meet district staff and students.
