Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.—BARNARD— Favorite local musicians gather for BarnArts Local Music Show, Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. This digital celebration of music and community will include new Covid-era music videos by Jack Snyder, Bow Thayer and Trifolium, plus live interview, discussion and community chat with the musicians. Tickets are sliding scale $5-15 and are available through barnarts.org.
Hosted by Chloe Powell, BarnArts director of music programming and a member of Trifolium, the evening will focus on sharing music and bringing the community of musicians and viewers together to talk and connect. The five musicians —Jack Snyder, Bow Thayer and Trifolium’s Andy Mueller, Justin Park and Chloe Powell — have still been creating music off stage this winter, and look forward to the opportunity to share the music and talk with the audience.
“Everyone is excited to participate and have a venue to share their art in this slow time for musicians,” said Powell.
While all these dynamic local musicians will be sharing new recorded material, Jack Snyder plans to also play live from his home studio. Snyder (also know as Leyeux) grew up in Barnard, and local fans watched him develop as a gifted young performer playing with his father as a teen and then heading off to Berklee College of Music in 2013. He is currently finishing his degree in music education at the University of Vermont while still performing and writing songs inspired by the diverse genres of acoustic, electric and electronic sounds.
Bow Thayer is recording his new music for this event at Artistree and is “delighted to explore a new collaboration” with Artistree’s Music Director, Mark van Gulden, who will play vibes with him on the video. Thayer has been a staple locally, performing most years with BarnArts at Feast and Field, a history going back to the old days under the apple tree in downtown Barnard. Thayer’s roots are in the Boston music scene, but he has been making his home in Stockbridge for decades, despite his national accolades. American Songwriter says this “onetime Levon Helm compatriot is the best artist to come from New England in recent years.” As No Depression puts it, “You want inventiveness…I offer Bow Thayer.” Thayer will also share about his unique progress as a visual artist, touching on all aspects of his personal artistry getting his attention during these slow times.
Trifolium is a trio of good friends, including host, Chloe Powell. She’ll be joined in conversation by bandmates Justin Park and Andy Mueller, and they’ll share how they’ve managed this past year, as well as share new music, assembled digitally during this time of distancing. Trifolium is named for the state flower, the red clover, a nitrogen fixing legume, and their aim is to make music that evokes a sense of belonging, of sharing joy and beauty, and of making things a bit better in the world.
Host Chloe Powell is BarnArts director of music programming. She grew up in Barnard and returned after stints in Boston, Burlington an Italy. She celebrates all kinds of music and has been playing in a traditional roots trio with Park for over 10 years. She schedules the Thursday Night Music Series at Feast & Field each year and other special events that fall under BarnArts Music on the Farm programming.
