Keep your pets safe in the cold, winter weather

RCHS would like to remind you that pets need special care in the winter months. Dogs and cats should be inside when the temperature drops.

Make sure that pets who are outside have water that isn’t frozen and is in plastic bowls, as tongues can stick and freeze to metal ones.

Wipe your animal’s paws after it has been outside.  Remove the irritating salt and other chemicals it may come in contact with.

Be especially careful with antifreeze.  It’s a sweet and  deadly poison that  attracts animals.

Watch for frostbite on ears and other areas.

If your dog is outside, it must be protected by a dry, draft-free doghouse. Windchills can threaten animals’ lives.
