Lady Saints head to New Jersey to play NCAA Div. 1 NJIT

By Justin Lemanski

Sports Reporter

The Lady Saints will likely have one their toughest match-ups of the season on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, as they go on the road to face NCAA Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology.

NJIT has played schools such as Clemson, Harvard, Hofstra, Seton Hall, and others. They currently hold an 8-15 record which isn’t bad considering the level competition they play. NJIT is lead by Leah Horton who is averaging 10.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. NJIT will play at a fast pace and really put pressure on the Saints. They will be a well-disciplined team that will capitalize on any mistakes.

For the Saints to compete they will have to take care of the ball and play great team defense. Regina Steele will likely be a key factor in the game; if she can use her height and strength to protect the rim, it will give the Saints an opportunity to box out and use their guards in the transition game.

Saints point guard Chontayvia Kennedy will have to keep turnovers to a minimum while penetrating and getting to the rim herself or finding a teammate for layups. Jazz Laracuente will also have to be on her “A” game and use her quick feet to find open lanes to drive and shoot.

Although this is not a conference or USCAA game, it provides a great opportunity for the Saints to play against tough competition as they move closer to the postseason. Tip off will be at 2 pm. at NJIT in Newark, NJ, and it will be streamed live.
